Horror movies are incredibly fun to watch. We love it when things scare us, this is only true when we want to be scared of course. And horror movies have been successful since the dawn of time. No matter how old or young you are, odds are high that you have seen at least a few horror movies in your life. There are classics like the Shining, and there are some more modern horror movies as well, such as The Conjuring.

While it is true that modern horror movies have taken a dive in popularity. We live in a new era where we can watch the latest or the oldest horror movie thanks to the Internet. There are countless streaming services out there, both legal and illegal. And if you want to watch Aliens from 1986 or even Rosemary's Baby from 1968, all you need to do is just search and you will find a stream within a few minutes.

Best horror movies you should watch all the time

Let us not waste any more time on talking about horror movies. We can talk about the history and everything some other day. For now, let us focus on the best horror movies of all time that you should be watching.

The Shining (1980)

If you have ever seen two small girls in a corridor looking incredibly scary, then you have seen a scene from The Shining. It is full of psychological horror elements leaving you wondering if the characters are simply losing their mind or if there actually is a supernatural power in play. The ever-famous bathtub scene, the corridor scene, and who could forget the maze?

If you have never seen the shining, then we highly recommend that you grab some popcorn, some company too and start watching it. While the movie is from 1980, it did age incredibly well.

Midsommar (2019)

Midsommar is an incredibly recent addition into this list. It is difficult to talk about a movie like Midsommar without giving away a lot of the story. What we can promise is that you will be creeped out and left questioning the sanity of human beings. Why? Because humans are capable of actually doing everything that happens in this movie.

Grab some friends while watching this one because by its end, we can promise that you will look at each other in question. Characters in horror movies often find out what is happening along with the audience, But Midsommar takes this a step further and makes us wish that our predictions are wrong.

Psycho (1960)

This is the oldest movie we are going to recommend; it is in black and white, and the movie follows a story that was far ahead of its time. Psycho is the movie that made it possible to bring more touchy subjects to cinema. What sort of subjects you may ask? Well, Psycho is responsible for bringing violence, deviant behavior as well as sexuality to the big screens in America.

While the movie is from the 1960s and some people might not enjoy the black and white nature of the film, we still think it has aged well and would definitely recommend it to any fans of the horror genre.

Us (2019)

Another recent film which follows the horror-thriller genre, Us shows us another common theme in modern movies where critics and the audiences do not agree with each other. Critics on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes rate the movie incredibly high for its genre. Audiences, on the other hand, did not really like it.

The movie follows a family several individuals dressed in red hunt them down. Those individuals, however, are nothing more than just lookalikes of that exact family. Definitely watch this movie if you are curious about why experts would love something that general audiences would hate.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Pan's Labyrinth is one of the highest rated horror movies on Rotten Tomatoes, and rightfully so. It is a perfect representation of how humans use fantasy to escape from their reality, but that too can have its consequences. Accurately termed as a fantasy movie for adults, it serves as an allegory for the unrest in Spanish politics through its fantastical elements.

The movie is available on Netflix in various countries but unfortunately if you are outside of any of these countries then you are out of luck unless you use a service like Turbo VPN. More on that later.

Aliens (1986)

Written and directed by James Cameron, Aliens is a masterpiece from 1986. The movie has had a lasting effect on popular culture and decades later it is still one of the highest rated horror movies of all time. While the film is a sequel to a 1979 film called Alien, it still does well enough to hold its own ground.

From memorable musical scores to hack and slash villains going through armies, Aliens is responsible for many clichés that are still widely in use by Hollywood. It is quite possible that for decades to come, Aliens will keep its name as one of the greatest films ever made.

Halloween (1978)

Seems like they simply do not make modern movies the same way, since more than half of the ones in this article are from before the 2000s. Regardless of when it came out, though, there does seem to be a trend. Older movies tend to be slasher, whereas the more modern horror movies are psychological.

Halloween is no different as we follow the story of Michael Myers, someone who had just come out of a sanitarium. Why was he in a sanitarium in the first place? Michael murdered his teenage sister when he was six years old while she was babysitting him. But if you wanted to have any sort of sympathy for the boy, you should not, because Michael is as crazy as they come. As usual, they cannot talk more without giving away details, so you will just have to watch it yourself.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)

We follow the story of a young couple who recently moved into Bramford, New York. Rosemary and Guy, both are eager to start a family and live a happy life together. But soon after getting to know their neighbors, Rosemary starts realizing that things are not as simple as they might seem. Her neighbors seem a little bit too friendly, and they want her to be as comfortable as possible. Especially after she gets pregnant.

Follow the story of Rosemary as she starts to figure out the conspiracy surrounding her future child, her husband, and her neighbors while she is stuck in the middle of it all.

Ring (1998)

This movie proves once again that no one does psychological horror as well as Japan. The Ring in this movie is a videotape that kills the viewer seven days after they watch it. More than just psychological horror, the movie also features supernatural elements such as psionic capabilities and ghosts.

The characters in the movie attempt to find out the origins of this videotape and how it came into being. Grab some popcorn and definitely a partner to watch this with as the main characters attempt to dispel the curse of this supernatural videotape.

Where to watch the best horror movies

These are some of the best horror movies which you should be watching. But how would you go about doing so in the first place? Most of these movies are on multiple streaming websites due to how old they are, there are legal as well as illegal ways to stream these movies. You can find them on Netflix or other premium streaming services, or you can just use a pirated streaming service like 123movies.

Both of these options, however, have their own problems, so let us quickly talk about those.

The problem with Netflix and other premium streaming services

Netflix and other premium streaming services have to respect the local laws and regulations in the country that they operate in. Because these movies are so old, it is often difficult to find the original copyright owner and purchase the streaming licenses that would allow Netflix to show it to the entire world.

Not to mention that other companies often hold these licenses. For example, in India something like HBO would have the exclusive license to show that movie. Whereas in the United States, any number of companies might have the license. Finances incentivize all of these companies to hold onto these licenses instead of allowing Netflix to add it to their library.

What if you use free streaming services without a VPN

On the other hand, if you are using a free streaming service that you just came across with Google, odds are high that your ISP and other local authorities might be monitoring your traffic to ensure that you are not viewing illegal material.

Watch horror movies with Turbo VPN

You can avoid both of these problems by using Turbo VPN. For Netflix and other premium subscription services. You can use Turbo VPN and their special streaming service to bypass their geological restrictions. These companies often use your IP address to pinpoint where you are currently located in, and Turbo VPN changes your IP address to be from whichever country you wish. Meaning that you can access the Netflix US library without even physically being there. On the other hand, while watching free streams, Turbo VPN encrypts your Internet connection and ensures that no third party can find out what you are trying to view. Your ISP and your local authorities will not know that you are trying to watch a movie for free. You can also review the best movies on different platforms with Turbo VPN.
