In this ever-changing media landscape, we are overwhelmed by information. That's why people use media to find people who shared same value or opinion. In communication theories, it's also known as audience fragmentation. Reddit is one of the fragmented media platforms. It is a social media unlike most others on the internet, calling itself “the front page of the internet”. It is a collection of communities both large and small called subreddits. Some of the larger subreddits have tens of millions of subscribers. Users have discussions, post pictures, videos, memes, and everything else that you can imagine.
Also, you do not need to provide any personal information when creating a Reddit account. Making a new one is as simple as coming up with a brand-new username (yes, that is the difficult part!). Due to how easy Reddit makes it to remain anonymous, people post all sorts of stories. They talk about their experiences with the unspoken relief that no one from their real-life will find out about their online activity.
Every now and then though, people end up making a mistake and associate their Reddit account with themselves in a way that is hard to deny. Whether you slipped on some detail about your real life. If a friend recognized, or simply clicked a link in your inbox, fear not as Reddit does let you delete your account with no questions asked.
There are many people who recommend that you should delete your Reddit account every now and then. Because keeping track of everything you have said on the platform can get quite tedious. You never know what will come back to bite you in the future. Something you may have said harmlessly a few years ago might just come back and haunt you if your employer finds out about it.
Deleting your account is fairly simple. But you will need access to it. If you have forgotten your login credentials, you will need to try and recover them before deleting your account. You will also need to use a browser as it is currently not possible to delete your account through the Reddit application. So, if you have access to a desktop computer you should have no trouble following these steps.

Another method of deleting our Reddit account through your computer is:
You will need to use your phone’s browser and the easiest method of doing so is by directly opening the link we provided in Method #1 in a private-browsing window.
Simply visit https://ssl.reddit.com/prefs/deactivate and follow the on-screen instructions.
For all intents and purposes, deactivating a Reddit account is the exact same as deleting it. There is no grace period during which you can recover your account. The deletion process is instant. And your account will become inaccessible as soon as you complete the above steps.
Reddit simply uses the “deactivate” term instead of “delete,” both words mean and function in the exact same manner and users attempting to view your account after it is deleted will be greeted by a message that states: “This user has deleted their account”.
Deactivating or deleting a Reddit account is a permanent action. You will not be able to recover your Reddit account as Reddit immediately starts the process of deleting information related to your account from their database as soon as you start the deletion process.
Reddit admins themselves have stated that even they cannot help you recover your account. This is a non-reversible process.
While Reddit is certainly living up to its name of being “the front page of the internet,” there are still many alternatives out there that can give you a sense of privacy and anonymity without spending a lot of time. On the other hand, Reddit does provide an experience of anonymized community interactions that is harder to replicate.
Primarily an image sharing social media that popped into existence alongside reddit, Imgur now has its own community and people who share, create, and upload content to the platform. If the primary reason you are using reddit is to view memes and absorb content through images: Imgur is the best choice out there for you.
On the other edge of the spectrum, if you want a far more open and anonymous experience compared to Reddit, 4chan is where you should go. While the website is known and famous to have content that is borderline unacceptable in society, it still has dozens of discussion boards that are far tamer in comparison. 4chan is primarily also an imageboard although thorough discussions take place on current events, geopolitics, entertainment media, and everything else you can imagine.
Staying on the wholesome end of online communities, 9gag tends to focus more on humor and memes. Although some discussions do take place in the comments, the focus is more on the shared images. The website provides an experience where you can scroll through content and spend your time more on absorbing it instead of focusing on arguments that take place in the comments.
Reddit accounts might be easy to create and delete but the benefits of having a dated reddit account still exist. Even if karma does not matter, account age does make you a lot more trustworthy in an anonymous space compared to a brand-new account.
Either way, if you are deleting your reddit account due to privacy concerns then you should definitely think twice before doing so. There are better ways to achieve privacy on the internet, especially if you want to keep your online activity anonymous from the people around you.
Employees and IT staff often have systems in place to track what websites you are using. They check what servers your devices are connecting to, what DNS requests your device is making, and if your connection is not secure. If that is the case, they can also check what you are viewing or doing on these websites.
By using a VPN service like TurboVPN, you can avoid all of this from happening.
VPN services route traffic through their own systems in a manner which makes it impossible to track what exactly you are trying to open. Turbo VPN accomplishes this in three key steps.
DNS queries happen when your device tries to access a service the first time. Your device will ask the domain name server to translate a domain name, for example, “reddit.com” to its server’s IP address. During this step, whoever is hosting the DNS server will be able to log what request your device has made.
TurboVPN avoids this by using its own Private DNS servers that make it impossible for your employee, your school administration, or even your ISP’s DNS servers to know what websites you are attempting to open.
Another means of exposing your online activity is through observing your traffic, called a man-in-the-middle attack.
TurboVPN also encrypts the traffic between its servers and your device, so whatever it is that you are viewing on Reddit or discussing, your ISP nor your employer can find out about it even if they attempt to view your traffic; they will only be able to see gibberish.
One of the last resorts to track what you have been doing in the online world is through accessing the logs that your ISP and your VPN provider have been keeping. TurboVPN on the other hand has a strict no-logging policy meaning that even if someone were to attempt to reach them – there would be nothing to look for.
People do not only use Reddit from a single device. They also use it while using the bathroom, and they also use it on another tab while working. But if you are using a Reddit account through a VPN server in Europe, it is a clever idea to keep doing so even after you switch devices. This way even Reddit will not be able to pinpoint your exact location and trace your activity back to you.
